Story
A long time ago, my husband and I came to America from Ethiopia. We have lived here in America very happily, gradually growing our family with children.
However, despite having many things to do in America, there was always something missing at mealtimes—the Injera we used to eat for lunch and dinner in Ethiopia. Since coming to America, we struggled to find fresh, delicious Injera made only from teff and water.
This was something that deeply troubled my husband and me because we had grown up eating this Injera from childhood to adulthood. We felt like something was missing in our lives.
One day, after giving birth to my first child, I decided to throw a small party and invite my beloved family and friends. At this gathering, I mainly wanted to serve only Injera and stew. I wanted to prepare the Injera myself at home.
I began buying the ingredients one by one, and after gathering everything, I baked a delicious, fresh, and soft Injera using only teff and water. My family and friends who tasted it at the gathering loved it. They encouraged me to turn this delicious Injera into a business, supporting me by purchasing a little bit every day.
This encouragement inspired me. Ten years ago, I started making the Injera I had grown up with—the one I had missed so much—right at home, following a standard process using only teff and water. I began selling it, and my customers frequently told me that it was not only delicious but also good for their health, even helping to regulate their blood sugar levels.
With the growing support of my family, friends, and customers, I consulted with my husband and made a big decision: I founded Bethlehem Bread and Ambasha.
Today, Bethlehem Injera and Ambasha distributes Injera across Seattle, reaching supermarkets, Habesha restaurants, weddings, birthdays, mourning gatherings, and many other events. We are quickly achieving a high level of quality and quantity.
Bethlehem Injera and Ambasha is also making an impact by creating employment opportunities, especially for women.
Our strength comes from three key factors:

- The fact that we always use only pure teff and water to make our products.
- The encouragement and support of my family, relatives, and friends.
My goal is to continue serving all my customers with delicious Injera and Ambasha made only from teff and water—without any compromises. Since teff is naturally gluten-free, we encourage our customers to enjoy it as part of a healthy diet, as we prepare it in a standardized and high-quality manner.
